Ummm....excuse me?
(And I am not talking about the spectacular novice modeling done by Julia) Exactly what I thought when I first saw this hot mess nonchalantly hanging in my basement between a pair of mom-butt Levi's and some khaki boy scout garb circa 1987 acting like it owned the damn place.
Who's is this? Is it a costume? Is it a joke? Did someone in my house take on figure skating? (Donn....?) No time for questions, this sad piece of ugly just had to go. (Disclaimer: sorry to whosever item this was in my family, it seriously was just horrific and I couldnt bear the sight of it during my biweekly trips to the basement to do laundry any more).
First, the sequins. As a veteran schronized swimmer/theme party afficionado/sorority girl (CHRIST, what a combination.....) I'd be lying if I said sequins had never made their way onto a garment or two (...or maybe like sixteen...MAX) of mine within the last eight years. That being said, however, synchro's over and done with, theme parties post-grad come few and far between, and "that" era of Tridelta is no more (tear). Thus, thread ripper came out and off they went!
And with those sequins, you could DIY.....a cat collar!!!

CYA, SEQ'S!
...or maybe not.
After those horrific embellishments were given the boot and removed from the poor unsuspecting housecat, the shirt wasn't nearly as awful. The sleeves were sheer and had a flowy 70's vibe to them, which I could appreciate. The high neckline was also semi-cute, however if any of you know anything about me, if the T's can't be out, something else has to be. So after some scoundering/soul searching on the online shopping world (namely, ASOS, Akira Chicago, and Urban Outfitters), I found the inspiration and courage to whip out the ol' titanium shears and hack away at the defenseless polyester.
A little elastic on the sleeves to keep them at 3/4 length position and VIOLA. A Ming Original is born! My deepest gratitude goes out to my dear friend Julia Martens who helped me with this project! The first of many modeling gigs, I am sure.
